Patina Spider Earrings with Blue Jade
A hand-carved spider crawls across each earring, its legs bent and reaching, cut from jeweler’s brass and finished in a mottled green patina that looks like old copper left out in the rain. A soft aqua blue jade cabochon sits at its center, set in a sterling silver bezel soldered by hand, with a little spiral of the same patina brass curled above. Below, a tassel of mixed-metal chain falls in three finishes: 14K goldfilled box chain, oxidized sterling, and sparkling sterling ball chain, all hung from 14K goldfilled ear wires. Bold, a little wild, and still pretty. Every patina is unique and no two spiders are alike, and this pair is one of one. ~3.5 inches.
Care note: the spider’s legs are fine, hand-shaped brass/silver, so please don’t bend or squeeze them, as they can break. The patina is part of the design and can slowly change with wear, so keep these away from water, lotion, perfume, and heat. Put them on last, take them off first, and store them flat in a jewelry box or pouch when traveling or not in use.
